This condition makes the patient feel as if his/her feet is burning – enough to wake the person up in the middle of the night. It can be a continuous pain or just occurs during the night.

- Nerve damage can also be caused by other factors, including heavy metal poisoning and vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin B12 deficiency is considered to play a crucial role in burning sensation in feet at night.
- Erythromelalgia is a circulatory disorder that can also cause burning feet.
- Mechanical overload, especially if the patient is overweight and was standing up for long periods of time.
- Reflex sympathetic dystrophy
- Fungal infection or Athlete’s foot is one of the most common causes of burning sensation in the feet.
- Metatarsalgia (i.e. inflammation of the metatarsal joint, often associated with gout or rheumatoid arthritis)
- Morton’s neuroma
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- Sometimes, a person could experience burning feet due to sensitivity or allergy to certain components of food. For instance, some people could develop contact dermatitis and burning feet when wearing synthetic socks.
Symptoms And Treatment Of Burning Feet At Night
The symptoms of burning feet vary among patients.
- Most of the time, the patient will feel as if his/her feet is burning. This could be accompanied by sharp pain and redness. At times, the sensation will occur all of a sudden while in other cases, the symptoms will gradually manifest.
- The burning sensation could be localized – this could actually help in determining the exact nature and cause of the ailment. For instance, if the pain is at the forefoot, it could mean that it is due to metatarsalgia or Morton’s neuroma.

- Increase the intake of foods rich in vitamin B complex, especially Vitamin B12. Milk and dairy products, lean meat and egg are good natural sources
Also consult your doctor if the condition persists. It may be an indicator of deteriorating health, especially in patients with diabetes.
